CureRING is a health wearable built on a simple premise: the person generating the data decides what happens to it.
The default is usually backwards
Most consumer health devices collect continuously and grant themselves broad rights to what they gather. The person wearing it gets a dashboard; the company gets a dataset.
CureRING inverts that. Contribution is opt-in per use, and it is revocable.
What "control" actually means here
Concretely:
- You choose whether your data is included in a given research dataset.
- You can withdraw, and withdrawal removes future use.
- Data is handled as identifiable, because health signals tied to a device are not anonymous and treating them as though they were would be incorrect.
Why this matters for research
Consented, well-characterised data is more useful than a larger pile of ambiguously sourced data. A dataset whose provenance cannot be stated is one that careful researchers will not build on.
The constraint is a feature.
